Before and After Color pics....

afoll Jul 06, 2008 12:46 PM

I am new to the whole blood thing... There is much debate about how to pick a neonate blood python in order to get that screaming red adult color. I would love to see some pics of "before and after" pics/ color progression pics as a young blood gains its adult color. I would even like to see pics of ones that you thought were going to be awesome and turned out brown or yellow.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Andy, I just picked out my first baby blood based on the parents. Everyone said to buy a baby that had very red parents to insure that color---I also chose one of the babies from the litter that already seemed to have the most red as a hatchling. We'll see if that holds up as she grows!

Like you, I would love to see a progression of photos showing how a young blood changed in color as it grew to adulthood. However, since each snake is unique, that doesn't mean such a progression would hold true for another blood!

There's a certain amount of color risk no matter what blood baby you pick. As others have said, the only way to guarantee adult color is to buy an adult!

recently:

my personal opinion and apparently a lot of other folks is this, if you want RED bloods, buy red adults, or babies from red parents.

I can show you photos of the parents of these snakes posted and they were RED.

Red adults do not always make red offspring.

Given the fact that her early coloring is so exceptional, I'd say she's bound to be a stunner!

Here are my two red bloods as babies in 2002 (I didn't take this photo) and one of the same two from today. The darker baby did end up being a little bit more red, but neither are really very red. I like them anyway!

Here's one from 2004, when they looked farther from being red than they even did as hatchlings... sorry about the picture quality. I was using a bad camera back then.

They're beautiful! Thanks for showing the transformation!
