another bloodred surprise.........

wisema2297 Jul 06, 2008 04:10 PM

here is a lighter version of the darker one below. Definitly looks different than the other normal bloods. The first pic is real dark but shows the difference in color well. The second pic uses flash so it washes out a little.

newest one alongside hypo blood

Those are interesting looking pewter corns. Ken

I was afraid to say pewter..........this was my first year even producing bloodreds. I bought them as bloodreds het hypo. There was no knowledge of any charcoal in the mix. What fun!!!

Yep, those be Pewters, I reckon.

Congrats on those surprises.
Talk about a mixer clutch, eh?

That lighter Pewter has the best white-head I've ever seen on a Pewter.
Call me greedy, but that one would not be leaving my Herproom. NOPE...

Maybe the lighter Pewter is a Hypo Pewter?? hmmm...

Very nice, so correct me if I am wrong but your clutch then has bloodreds, hypo bloodreds, pewter and hypo pewter, looks like you pulled the lever and got 3 cherries!!! Congrats Ralph!!! If that clutch doesn't put a smile on your face, nothin' will. Thanks for sharing, that's fantastic!!!
I've been keeping reptiles for 30 years but I am new to corn snake breeding so this is probably an ignorant newbie statement, and I guess maybe stating the obvious, but it seems like corn snakes have been bred so much that a lot of hidden genes get passed unknowingly even though they are in fact possible hets, because they were not proven out, due to not being a part of that particular project. It was enough work writing out the 64 genotype possibilties with 8 phenotype possibilities and their respective probobilities for my triple hets clutch, and I don't really want to have to redo that square if there is another surprize gene on top of that, it would get ugly but who doens't like surprises anyway?

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, it was a big surprise. I was only hoping for a pair of hypo bloodreds from this pairing since I only got 9 eggs. I had no idea the parents were also het for charcoal.
