Argus monitor vomiting

adainc96 Jul 07, 2008 10:56 AM

Hello. I have a pair of argus monitors that are just over a year old. They've got a 10'x8'cage and all their temperatures are spot on. The female however keeps throwing up whatever i feed her. she normally takes down several small adult mice without a problem but now she cant keep a single fuzzy down. I thought it may have been a result of stress so i havent allowed anyone to even walk by the cage and i even took the male out. she's still very active and makes burrows constantly...like always.this has been going on for a little over a week. Her vet cant see her till thursday so im looking for any possible explanations or suggestions. Thanks in advance...

My first guess would be temps. What is your night time drop looking like? Stress is a possibility but, what has changed recently that is making it stress out?

Good luck
Steve

Hi. Thanks for the response. The cage is indoors so the temperatures are constant. As far as surface temperatures, the basking spot is at about 140 degrees and the coolest areas are around 76 degrees. Ambient temperature is about 85.

Your task is to determine if your monitor is SICK or healthy. If healthy, she could be gravid and in great need to drop her eggs. Which explains the digging.

If sick, she needs to head to the vet. Being eggbound is also a form if sickness.

As a forum does not have the ability to actually examine the patient, there is no real value in a dozen or so guesses. Which is what your going to get on here, guesses. A Vet actually examines the animal.

The above choice(decision) is the keepers to make. Its a responsibility that comes with ownership. So you have to make it.

About waiting until thursday for the vet visit. I hope your monitor doesn't die before the appointment. Another decision of yours, there are more vets you know. How about just taking the monitor to the vet without an appointment, kinda like an emergency care visit.

Remember, the problem with animals is, by the time they SHOW illness, they are REALLY sick. They do not whine at the first sign, but instead wait until they are very very sick before "you" see it. So you making a very fast decision is very important. Good luck
