One of the newest hatchlings still has about 1/8 inch of dried umbilical chord exposed. Should I leave it alone and wait for it to fall off on its own, keep it on slightly moist paper towels?

I have had several come out that way, I think it may be the fact that I could not just leave them alone when they hatched "We all know how hard it is" I left them alone and after a week or so they fell off there own with no ill effects

Ralph, If it's dried up I'd leave it alone. Jeff
i usually place the baby in a container with moistened paper towels and in about a day it falls off and is healed fine

i like to let it dry out by itself , just make sure it's not loosing a large amount of blood through the cord.
