Racks...belly heat vs back heat

ballmorphsbymike Jul 07, 2008 07:28 PM

My racks that i have now all have belly heat, but i can get a deal on 2 racks but they have back heat and it cannot be changed to belly. do any of you use racks with back heat and do you see any problems using them? Should i pass on the racks and get ones with belly heat? Thanks for the info.

What's up Mike? I prefer belly heat, but I asked the same question to Animal Plastics a couple years ago, and Ali told me it's pretty much the same. Back heat is like an ambient temp, and belly is floor heat (obviously), but according to her one is just as good as the other.

I have both--- I have a few racks with back heat-- the ones we built first-- less wiring-- and I was less paranoid about them.
Now we've got a few with belly heat... I don't like that the tub actually contacts the flexwatt-- makes me worry as I've had bad previous experiences with that....

I see no difference in the way anybody eats, poops or sheds... the ones with back heat hang out at the end of the tub to digest--- and at the front other times... water is in the middle...

I say-- if the price is right-- get the racks...
I don't see any differences in behavior between the 2...

My only concern is room temperature. When I had my first two racks together (one back, one belly) in my walk in closet the temperature in there was 79 degrees. The snakes in the rack with belly heat often laid over the tape and were warm to the touch. The snakes in the back heat rack on the other hand were cold to the touch, even laying at the spot closest to the heat tape.... just my .02
