baby troubles, need advice!

vampchick00 Jul 08, 2008 11:10 AM

I have 7 baby beardies that are about 2 weeks old now. They are mostly ok, except for one. I *had* a rock in their cage for them to bask on, then on day, I noticed one baby flailing around weirdly, and I found that he had somehow gotten himself stuck under the rock! His head looks a little squished now (so I called him Squishy), but he still eats and drinks fine. One problem that worries me though are all his legs shake a lot, like he doesn't have good control over them. Is there anything that anyone can reccommend that I do for him, or is he always going to have these shaky legs?

By the way, basking temps are 115 on the upper end, and they have had a UVB light since they were born, they are on paper towel, and are fed crickets and either kale or collard greens (whatever looks better at the grocery store)

Please help!

I don't know on the shaky legs, you'll have to wait and see but if it is eating and pooping that's good. Shaking is also a symptom of calcium deficiency. Is there UVB and supplements?

I'd skip the Kale and Collard and go with mustard and romaine to get them started. Here is a good site for greens and vegs.

I've seen that before when one accidentally got wedged under a stick. In my case, the little one was fine, but he was never shaky. He did have a squishy head. It's really just a time will tell sort of thing. I'm sure it is neurological from the head injury and babies have remarkable healing capabilities since they are in a period of rapid growth. As long as he is not harassed by his cagemates, he should be fine, but I would keep a close watch to make sure he is eating and defecating. He may need to hand fed some green bean baby food if he isn't eating on his own. He needs a good protein source for healing such as crickets if he can catch them, or small Phoenix worms.

I don't care for Romaine too much, just my opinion, but I like Collard, mustard, and turnips for staple greens. They are nice and dark and have a high calcium content.
