more humidity?

saagbay Jul 08, 2008 06:51 PM

okay so saphira is finally acting like a BRB i saw her soaking in her water dish last night for only the second time. so unless she is soaking at night when im sleeping, shes not hardly at all.

she was getting dark and getting ready to shed so it didnt surprise me all that much, and she did shed this morning... sorry for no pictures still no camera...

anyways she did shed and she looks great, her shed wasnt terrible but it wasnt quite perfect either, it came off in three slightly torn pieces.

doesn anyone have any thoughts about raising humidity? maybe move her dish closer to the heat or ad a little more moisture to the hide she NEVER hides in?

hopeful for not to distant future:

2 or 3 more? maybe a breeding trio or two pair
-- something for the wifey... my list got to big...

Stephen,
...You could spill some water on the substrate. I check on my snakes daily. If the cage seems a little dry I spill just enough water from the water bowl that it looks like it will dry in 12 to 24 hours. I don't want the kraft paper substrate wet all the time but wet for long enough to increase overall cage humidity works fine.

In addition to Jeff's suggestions you can place a smaller glass dish of water over part of the UTH to work as a evaporating dish. But Make sure you still have the normal water dish/soaking bowl in there and located somewhere else.

In addition to a small evaporating dish I also use a large surface area water bowl/soaking bowl. Between the two they keep the humidity pretty high.

Sean.

The extra water bowl is a great idea. You can also fill the bowls so that when the snake goes into the water it overflows the bowl a little and adds water to the substrate.

okay there are a couple good thoughs thanks Jeff and Sean.

so i just got home and checked in and Dixie's cage was all steamed up, so much to where i could hardly see in! i guess she wanted more humidity too lol.

it looks like she dumped water out of her dish, just dont know how either she got into her dish and forced the water to over flow or she got behind it and moved it causing the water to jump over the sides... there is no way she got under it...
