How do you get a good picture?

DarienD Jul 09, 2008 12:21 AM

I was just wondering if any of you have good ways to get pics of reptiles and what camera you use. I have been trying to get high quality full body and close up shots for a while and have had no luck. Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

My problem has always been blurred photos, so I'd say the first step is getting a tripod. Second thing is setting up good lighting, and third is good software for post-processing (Adobe Photoshop, or for those with smaller budgets, GIMP is free software which is like Photoshop but missing most of the interface and some features that aren't critical for basic photo edits).

Obviously a good camera is also important: a digital SLR would really be the best, but of course the budget has to be there for something like that. (Figure $500 for the camera body alone, then add lenses.) Canon and Nikon both make a lot of very decent point and shoots in the $200-400 range that'll work well for most people most of the time.

As far as setting up the shoot, one of the regular posters over on the rainbow boa board actually posted a guide, most of which ought to be applicable.
