Warning,,,Crazy Question....

Does anyone think it matters if kings can see out? What i mean is I keep some in a rack system with opaque rubbermaid containers, and others in cages with plexi fronts. A friend of mine keeps frogs and felt sorry for the animals who could not see out...I mean it is not like they are watching TV..lol
Just wondering....

I've heard it said that opaque cages are better because the snakes cannot see out, thereby reducing stress. But I disagree somewhat. I think it matters little as long as the snake has hiding opportunity.

I know a guy who has had a Cal king for around 23 years in an all-glass tank in a high-traffic area. I know another guy who has rosyboas in clear boxes, some of which are 20-something years old. If these snakes are stressed, they sure deal with it well.

Glass is non-toxic and doesn't offgass dangerous chemicals. Some plastics do. There is a reason some plastic boxes have a plastic odor, and those molecules one smells are not very good for any living thing when exposed all of the time. When you smell food-safe plastic boxes like FDA-approved HDPE and polycarbonate, there is no odor at all. My point here is clear glass is safer than some plastics, and so the clear vs opaque issue is secondary.
