Anyone heard of blaze phaze goini? Where they keep their bright coloration for life (i.e. oranges/reds, etc).

They have been around for quite a while now, but I haven't seen many that keep their "bright" coloration as adults. IMHO, the hypo brooksi X goini are much better....but that's my opinion. I have normal adults that I think are nicer than blaze animals.

The Blaze is a hyperythristic trait

I bred the Blaze this year to a Jelly and got hets. I think the result will be spectacular.
The Jelly is a Peanut Butter brooks crossed into a T negative albino.
jelly baby:
hets are not that nice but OBOY wait until they breed each other:

That was the original assumption but I'm not sure it's correct. I've seen too many outcrossed lines that just look drab as adults to think that the trait is adding any color at all. I think this may be a type of hypo and that the only reason the original animals were "blazing" was becasue they originiated from a hi red line. Just my 2 cents.
Pic is of a very hypo looking blaze female.

I was at Steve Fowlers place many years ago and he had several screamer animals. It was the first time I really took a look at them and thats what I thought Tony was that they were actually hypo.

hmmm., they did not look hypo to me at all. Maybe the term hypo is being misused. Hypo is a board term. In the end it is all lables made up by man anyway. One thing for sure and that is the hypo in the Blaze is not allelic with the hypo in a brooksi. I know that for a fact because I bred the two genes together a few years back and the babies all came out normal. Still waiting on a double reccessive from Tom Stevens.
This is why i don't call the Blaze a hypo gene. While I know there might be other strains of hypo in the goini i find that highly unlikely because so many of the reccisve traits in that close a proximity are related. There has never been a different hypo florida king found.
An example would be the whitesided blackrat (Licorice stick)and everglades (Ghost Glades)are allelic. I beleive that is the goini was a hypo we would have found it in florida kings and all the way down to theb brooksi range.
just my .02 cents

I would imagin these are allelic in much the same way that Lucy black and Texas Rats are allelic!
Back to the Blaze, perhaps I haven't seen eough of them for my 2 cents to matter but of the ones I have seen very few, as adults, look to have increased amounts of red at least relative to non-blaze hi red lines. They look lighter with decreased amounts melenin which allows normal levels of red to show better.
But I think the arguement is 2 sides of the same coin. One side says what you are seeing and the other side says what you arent. I think we judge them too much for what the babies look like, there are lots of examples of hi-red babies in non blaze lines.

One of my adult high red/orange normal goini.

This is another that I sold to a friend. She is now three years old.

Neither have any blaze blood in them.

They really dont compare to the hypo brooks x goini. This cross eliminates alot of the black which is replaced either with orange/yellow and will make amazing ghost-types in purple. This snake was 3.5' when the pic was taken.
Both these were about the same size(2.5')at the time. Blaze is the one on the bottom, hypo brooks/goini is the cleaner, more orange.

This was a nice one.

This sibling looks like it has the yellow but is completely lacking the RED...

I agree Jeff. The combo of the hyperthristic x hypo makes a much nicer animal.
That's why I think the Jelly crossed into the Blaze will turn out so nice. I think even better than the Blaze x hypo.

She's actually my favorite goini... not that I have much to choose from. Anyhow, I prefer her to the blaze male I have for her... go figure. Even knowing she'll lose a lot of color I'm still very curious to see how she turns out.
Also a female rhombo... she's actually about to go into the blue. The pic doesn't show it but she has a vivid bright reddish orange ventral color from tip to tip. It always loses intensity just prior to her shed cycle... kinda cool. Mole kings are quickly becoming a problem around here... lol.

Blaze originated from a hi red line. Some look nice as adults others do not. I suspect that outcrossing to less colorful lines is part of the reason. I crossed an OK male blaze to a killer hi red female I got from Brandon and produced some of the nicest goini I've ever seen. The female I held back is holding color into her second year and is close to 24".
The first pic os of the adult male. Second is of the 07 keeper as a neonate.

Thanks all for the info and pics. Very interesting subject for me. Now to get those goini and my common king collection will be complete from the West coast to the East coast and everything inbetween. Cals, MBK's, Desert kings, Harris county lemon yellow Specs, Blacks, Eastern's Florida's, Outer Banks and I'm sure more to come. Again thanks!
