I would like some input about some boas

ajfreptiles Jul 09, 2008 07:30 PM

Hello all,
I am glad to see so many great boa litters produced this year....congrats to all.

I have been trying my best to figure out what is going with these boas for quite some time...I am getting closer...lol...

But even though I hope this year can bring out more of what is going on, I believe there are those out there that have the expertise to see things visually and may be able to help me figure out the direction I should be taking.

Please give your input as to what you think is going on with the genetics of these boas....if you honestly think nothing is going on please say so....

Along side of my hypos is a poor comparrison shot so I used a normal boa in the pics as well to show how the bigger lighter female really looks.

This girl is technically old enough to breed but I have not rushed feedings so she will not be bred until next year. I have an older sister from the same parents that I will be breeding and also a hypo...please tell me your thoughts as to what would be a good choice of male to put on her.

Thank you all for any input...and I hope all your breedings and your sales are a success!

Andy Federico

Looks like a light Boa compared to a dark Boa? I don't see anything but a lighter than average animal, which shouldn't be much of a surprise considering most of the general public prefer those lighter Boas. What your seeing is the result of those light genes expressing themselves physically, instead of being hidden. Polygenic traits are what you want to research if you want more info on it.

Hey Andy, not an expert by any means, IMO looks like a very clean, high end pastel to me. Reduction in the darker pigmentation is letting all those brighter/lighter colors through? Just an thought

Definitely worth working with IMO, Pastel seems to go well with most everything!!!

I think you have something there, just don't know what. I would love to get in on it though. I would love to see that in an anery, just dont use the dark fella for the pairing.

The large Boa looks a lot like a Chris Canada Smith Pastel that I have. Otherwise, I would need a little direction as to where you might be going or wish to go to offer any thought on it. Then again, since they aren't mine and I do have a lot of glue sniffing to do, I honestly might not mull on it all too long. Nothing jumped down my throat right away. Then again, I do tend to be more like the tortoise than the hare...

Oh sure, another hare/hair reference...
