cribo coloration

geckoejon Jul 09, 2008 08:37 PM

do cribos (yt in particular) keep their same color from hatchlings until adulthood? will they lighten or darken as they age? i've see a couple that i was thinking about investing in, but the color wasn't that appealing. hence the reason for the question. thanks in advance for the feedback....

Yellow Tails tend to breed true, so if you can view the parents you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the offspring. Of course there is variation among individual animals, and there will always be the exception where an animal takes a turn for the better or worse as it matures. But generally nicely colored youngsters will become nice looking adults. Most will color up a bit during the maturation process.

I've got a yearling female I held back that has the potential to have a nearly solid pale yellow head when she hits adulthood. At
3.5 feet she is showing promising signs of it, and has improved some as she has grown, although she was a very light, standout hatchling.

Her 7 foot mother is shown in the photo below (if I did the photo transfer right) and her father is even more colorful. All the hatchlings in the clutch were well above average, so there was some consistency despite individual variation.

Oops, obviously not the YT adult female! LOL

Let me try that again.

Below is a photo of the first YT to hatch last year. It was representative of the color and quality of the hatchlings from that clutch, but was not the hold back female I referred to in my recent post.
