Yellow Tails tend to breed true, so if you can view the parents you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the offspring. Of course there is variation among individual animals, and there will always be the exception where an animal takes a turn for the better or worse as it matures. But generally nicely colored youngsters will become nice looking adults. Most will color up a bit during the maturation process.
I've got a yearling female I held back that has the potential to have a nearly solid pale yellow head when she hits adulthood. At
3.5 feet she is showing promising signs of it, and has improved some as she has grown, although she was a very light, standout hatchling.
Her 7 foot mother is shown in the photo below (if I did the photo transfer right) and her father is even more colorful. All the hatchlings in the clutch were well above average, so there was some consistency despite individual variation.
