Moonglow litter.....

rainbowsrus Jul 10, 2008 03:46 PM

Updated pics of my three baby litter (actually was four to start with but the albino male did not make it). The product of a DH Snow female and a TH Moonglow male.

This is the female, clearly a Salmon, also pos het Albino and Anery making her a POS TH Moonglow. She was the smallest of the litter. Not sure if she was a surviving twin where the other did not develop or just a small baby. In the pile of slugs there were normal sized ones and a good number of relatively tiny slugs. Maybe she came from one of those smaller ova?

This is the male, I think he's a Salmon as well but not certain. What do you all think? Much lighter overall coloring, pretty cool I think!!

Both together for comparison.....

And with their sister Luna, the Moonglow.

Very nice Dave. Definately a salmon.
I can't believe you hit a 1/32 animal in a 4 animal litter and I missed my 1/16 animal in a 21 animal litter. Oh well, maybe next year.

rainbowsrus Jul 10, 2008 05:26 PM

Thanks Matt, I really thought he was a Salmon but like the moonglow, could not believe my luck at beating the odds. And he's soooo visually different than his sister.

Yeah, I'm happy I got her, just ask Brian, he and I were on the phone when I found the litter.

By individual morph I came out a little ahead but not way out of expected resulte, only one animal over on two of three morphs. (including the albino that did not survive)

Hypo - 3/4 instead of 2/4
Albino - 2/4 instead of 1/4
Anery - 1/4 as expected

Hmmmm, wonder how the two possibles did on the het odds?

I'm planning on breeding that pair again, hope the pendulum does not swing in the opposite direction.

That Moonglow has awesome tail color!

rainbowsrus Jul 10, 2008 05:28 PM

I think I'll have to change out the tub with all the wear and tear pulling it out several times each day.

I sure would be happy with that 3 baby litter (sorry the albino didn't make it)

The male looks like a hypo to me. Usually I like the lighter ones but that darker female is just eye-catching. Great tail. I bet she's a het too. If you're running out of room, you can send her over here Luna is looking great, I'm so glad that she appears to be thriving (bigger than her siblings!). Very nice!

Thanks April, I always had doubts about the Albino, was just not as healthy as the other two full sized ones, not even as healthy looking as the tiny female. All three survivors had good sized yolk bellies so under forum advice, I "cooked" them at gestational temps for a week or so and they did great!!

LOL, me running out of room, I just built a second room so now I have twice the space, all kinds of empty tubs!!!! Muhahahahaha

I will most likely (eventually) let both the siblings go and only keep Luna. For now thay are mine to feed, clean up after and play with!!

I say that male is a Salmon just a strangely colored one. His tail blotch rings have darkish rings that go further up on the body then you normally see. Although I'm saying he is Salmon. I haven't even read others determinations yet , LOL
Oh yes also you'll notice the fem has some strange ring marking although not full rings all the way up on the seventh & eighth ring from tip of tail also.

Luna really is so pretty Dave ! The one thing I find peculiar about Ghost & Moonglow now especially is this.
An Anery has no red pigment Yet with Ghost & Moonglow the Tail blotches are Lavender which is a form of Purple and Purple is a form of Red. LOL Makes me chuckle, Am I wrong here,I'm laughing as I write this ?
Is this possibly because the skin is somewhat translucent allowing the blood underneath to make the blotches appear Lavender ? LOL

Good point, I do know Leucistic rat snakes are born like pink bubble gum, same thing, translucent skin and red bloodless showing through.
