Algerian Uromastyx Finally Hatch

douglasdix Jul 11, 2008 08:50 AM

The first Algerian Leopard Uromastyx clutch finally hatched. These are the first to be hatched in captivity so this is everyone's first look at a newly hatched U. acanthinurus acanthinurus. You can see the strong resemblance to Moroccans as hatchlings even though they look completely different as adults.

I'll try to get some photos of them next to some newly hatched Moroccans later this weekend so you can see them side by side.

Awesome! great picture too. How many eggs were there/have hatched?

douglasdix Jul 17, 2008 03:09 PM

There were 14 eggs in that clutch of which 12 hatched over a 3 day period. 1 egg still looks good but nothing out of it as of yet. I had a second clutch of 14 eggs that were all infertile and a 3rd clutch of 8 of which 3 look good and are due to hatch within a few weeks.

I'll try to get a good photo of an Algerina next to a Moroccan hathcling and post it. I tired last weekend but they would not sit still long enough to keep both in focus!

Doug, I see you completely covered the eggs. Did you incubate them in a Kemps by chance?
D&L.

Doug, on average, what percentage of your eggs successfully hatch per clutch?
Some more of my eggs are showing dismal signs and I'm curious to know if it's my husbandry techniques or just a natural thing.

Wow, too bad about the 2nd clutch of infertile eggs. At least you got 2 other clutches of good ones.

Was the infertile clutch a mating issue? Big congrats on getting these to successfully breed, hopefully next year will be even better.
