"Small litters of larger babies."
You are probably thinking of Boa madagascariensis.
Breeding info from email sent to a few peers:
First Observed copulation date : 10-29-2007
Last Observed copulation date : 1-17-2008
Male shows no interest any more.
Total Copulations (witnessed) recorded is : 12
Besides actual Copulatory events, where Copulatory behavior was noted but no copulation witnessed (smelling, spurring etc...) : 6
If the last copulation was when the snake became gravid then it could be as late as September or as early as July with the recorded (ROSS) gestation period of 6 to 8 months for this species.
As before I say sometime in July, but it could be after I guess, hard to tell, she looks to be staying off the hot spot now which I have read is towards the end of gestation. Having only bred Brazilian Rainbow Boa's which barely use the hot spot much (in my limited experience)if it goes above 84 degrees (dumeril choose 85 as a desirable hot spot) it is hard to compare their reproductive biology and come up with any solid data.
She shed from memory at least 4 times during gestation, last shed was definitely on 06/17/08.
She also fed during gestation, but she seemed to get reluctant to feed towards the end, but she still ate anyway, but it seemed reluctantly from my perspective.
If you have any more questions feel free to post them or just PM me.
