Thinking about getting a collard lizard (questions)

Alec_B Sep 02, 2003 08:50 PM

Hello, I'm currently thinking about purchasing a collord lizard. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank (previously held a bearded dragon). Would that be a good size tank? I always have veggies and crickets for my dragons so food wouldnt be a problem. Also I feed my BD silk worms because there high in calcium, would these also work for a collard? Another question is Whats there maximum size? So far i've seen from 12-16 is that acurate? Also how much do i feed a baby juvinile or adult (number of crickets). Im used to my dragons eating everything in sight but i dont want my collord lizard obese! And are they active? My dragon spends about 70% of there time basking at day time which i consider fairly active. What about a collard?

Sorry for any Spelling mistakes lol. THANKS!

Hi, you will love a collared, not only are there so many colors to choose from, but they are alot of fun to watch. They are extremely active, acrobatic at times ! But with daily handling can become quite tame.
Your 40 breeder would be great for a breeding group of a male and 2-3 females. Thats after you have become accustomed to one, and know if you want more or not. I use alot of the 40 breeder size.
Also feeding, yes they eat crickets, waxies, superworms, moths little spiders, as long as NO PESTICIDES ! Great eaters, usually !
The hatchlings, and juvies eat alot and should be offered as much as they want a couple times a day, dusted in calcuim powder.
Larger collareds I still alllow them to eat more than a few crickets if they want them. You will begin to know how much to throw in when you see how much ao an appetite he has. I wish you luck in your quest. You won't be sorry, they are very very cool little critters, ask anybody here ! LOL Eve
