Was just wondering what everyones thoughts were on washed children's play sand as opposed to Calci-sand. Now I know there are gonna be some who are strictly against sand all together. Just want some thoughts.

Thanks Steve

ONLY Adult Leos, and FINE playground sand.... is acceptable, however, not reccomended. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Definetly, my baby tang is on repti-carpet right now and I always sift the play sand prior to putting them on it. Calci-sand is just two darn expensive.

ANYTHING that is put in the cage or comes in contact w/ a gecko needs to be cleaned first (including sand, wood, 'new' bowls from a pet store, ect.) then rinsed and aired of any residue and fumes. look on www.Drgecko.com for further disinfectants, but you could wash the sand first then bake it 375F 30-45 minutes to kill bacteria and such.

I would go with the play sand over Calci-sand myself. Even what we call Masonary sand around here is a very fine sand. Don't really mess with sand anymore due to the maintenance of it.
