"Treatment of snakebite" postcard

viandy Jul 11, 2008 08:29 PM

I recently got (bought) this postcard, wanted to show it off. It is labeled "Treatment of snakebite". The middle finger is "place bitten", just below the elbow is "Tourniquet was place here", and underneath "40 incisions made in forearm". You can see the rubber bulbs for sucking out the poison, as they said. The bottom right corner reads "Ross Allen 1941". To be bitten is bad, to have been bitten then was worse! This is the first postcard of a snakebite I've seen.

Yes, that was the medical protocol of the day back then.

WOW! That looks pleasant. I wonder how effective the treatment is.
