How do I post a pic?? I would like to know what kind of hog I have, I believe it is an eastern. I am new to hognose. I have a 10 inch rescued hognose, a friend's parents would not let their kid keep it. Not sure if it is an eastern or western. It was caught in Middle Wisconsin. I live near Chicago. It has not eaten in a month but is drinking water regularly. I have read info from this site and have tried braining pinkies and have put the snake and the pinkie in a dark deli dish for over a day and no luck. As a stretch I have tried crickets and nightcrawlers also. No luck at finding toads around here and I just get dumb looks at all the pet stores, I have looked on line for toad sellers and no one has baby feeder lizards / anoles. I have tried scenting pinkies with chicken meat. What should I try next??? If need be I will let it go back where it came from but it is a very friendly and calm snake and I have grown attached to it. lease help. Thanks.

Hey there, to post a pic you'll need to upload it into your photos here on kingsnake, you'll find a link at the top of most pages, then select it in the message. That is how I do it at least. If it was found in Wisconsin it would be an eastern. They can be notoriously picky eaters. One thing you might be able to do if you can't find a toad, is find someone who keeps bullfrogs and dip a f/t mouse in the water for scenting. I would guess that after a month or more in captivity, it would probably be unwise to simply let it go (although I could stand corrected on this) but I know some states actually have laws against rereleasing anything in captivity more than 48 hrs. How are the temps in its enclosure? Just keep trying different things and hope they work.

Thanks for answering, I was leaning towards eastern based on info from hognose.com and other research. There are two lamps dividing 20 gallon tank, night light stays on all the time keeping aspen bedding and stone hideout temps at 65-75 degrees,on one side of tank and a daytime lamp 75-85 degrees on other side of tank, constant 45-70% humidity, I spray some moss every other day and there is always a supply of fresh water. I do not know of any one with a bull frog for scenting the pinks.

You might check out a pet store or reptile show. Also, if you do some research you might find a herp society with some ideas or help.

I was able to carefully force feed a chopped up nightcrawler to my little guy last night. I did this just for my one peace of mind so it would not starve, 4 weeks of no eating was worrying me. He seems ok this morning. I will try pinkie pieces next if he continues his stubborn ways. Any other ideas???
