The Boa Black Hole survives a TORNADO!

boaphile Jul 12, 2008 11:45 AM

Thankfully, The Boa Black Hole et all are safe and sound. It's a miracle, given the destruction that we saw at 1:45 PM July 10, 2008, that nobody was hurt and no significant damage occurred to any buildings or systems. The Big Wig's mini van is a different story. Here she is after several years of hard work for us:

I parked in a place I never park that van. Oh well, I guess I won't be parking that van there again! She still runs though! Just stuck in the key and she fired right up! A little breezy now though...

You can see where it was parked toward the right. The next door neighbors house, about 150' from our house, is in the background past the now prone jungle of Maple and Walnut trees:

or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your trees down!

It shredded the corn and laid it right down. Wasn't helpful to the power lines either. Couldn't even drive down the road...

I just let Mr. "G" know that he can't park his car in his regular spot right now. If he had, that little car would be about 2' tall!

The power had just gone out that day and we were watching the storm roll in from the garage. The wind, needless to say, was really blowing! But it didn't sound like a "freight train", like I'd always heard about tornados. So we watched, that is until we saw that 4' diameter maple that landed on the wife's car come down! Then it was time to head for the basement. Down we ran. It was all over in about ten minutes. I could see stuff that was in one of my garages blowing all over the back yard. Plastic. Rubbermaid tubs. Styrofoam. Cardboard boxes. A veritable parade of stuff. Then the dog. She had no idea where to go to get away from the torrent of wind, hail and driving rain. I called her in and was she happy! It was surreal. I was in Daytona for hurricane Charlie, but this was much different as everything I own was on the line.

Everyone is fine. Nobody was hurt. Nothing was lost except the wife's minivan, some plastic, and a whole lot of time. It is a huge blessing that nobody was hurt and that we had more of a huge scare than any really harm. We'll be just fine.

If I promised to ship out your cages Thursday or yesterday, I apologize. I didn't get that done...

Looks like the Great Spirit was merciful Jeff.

Mother Nature is powerful and several people in western TN a
few months ago were not as fortunate as so many others are not.

You and your families safety is number one and luckily no damage and the Boas being O.K. is a definate added bonus.

Prayers to those who have lost much more.

JJ

Wow I'm thankful everybody is ok Jeff. I have to admit I often worry about this scenario here in Northern IL. When watching the radar I often see those heavy storms rolling over Minn. and think "Hope the Ronne's are safe". The weather has been coming in on me from North-North west for several days. Glad to here your ok Jeff pretty much from your direction.

Hey Jeff - great pics - especially the corn! Over here in Albert Lea we got the strong winds and constant lightening. Power was out 3 hours. Glad to hear you are all safe! Looks like a long clean up though!

At least you won't have to buy fire wood for a long, long time! With the prices of oil anymore you have yourself a real windfall there!!!

Glad to hear that the family is unharmed and the Boa Black Hole is still intact.

Things can always be replaced. I am glad you and your family came out with no injuries although I am sure it must have been very traumatic.
Out of interest did this have any obvious effect on the snakes ie deliveries, breeding, strange behavior etc.

She still looks pretty good. J/K Glad to see no animal or human damage, it is a mess to clean up though.

PGoss Jul 12, 2008 08:32 PM

than oh say... your house. With all those big trees coming down, that was mighty fortunate. Kinda looks like a poor defenseless cage or rack got trapped inside the van though. Glad everyone made it through unscathed. Take care.

P.S. I'm sure you have enough glue to patch those trees back together.

Professor your house looks like what my house did 3 summers straight 2 years ago down here in good 'ol Miami (hurricane alley)...these are the times that make life interesting and make one count their lucky stars it was just trees and a vehicle and nothing more!! God told you to buy your wife a new car because ive bought so many cages and snakes from you and you should put some of that money towards your wife =). Good luck with the clean up my friend!
