Arlington, TX reptile show this weekend

Rob328gts Jul 12, 2008 03:23 PM

Really disappointed in the show, I've been waiting on it for more than a month. I've had my cage and everything ready for a snake for even longer, but decided to wait for it instead of buying on the internet. Tons of people and vendor tables were full, but all the heavy constrictors! The entire place only had a dozen or so Kings and I didn't find anything I wanted. I really think a vendor specializing in Kings would make a killing at this show.

Not sure exactly, doesn't sound or look familiar. I got there 1 hour after they opened. A ton of foot traffic, very hard to even move around the tables. I was specifically looking for a banded California, there were 2 juveniles, but a little too much brown in the bands and also looking for a '08. Like table with the California kings a few tables would have a couple Kings. Only one table was specialized in Kings, had about 9 beautiful gray banded, mountains, and albinos.

How hard is it to find a '08 banded California with even black dark and white light bands. I'm not asking for too much am I.

Sometimes it can be very hard! I got a few that started off jet black and are now brown and dull cream!

If you want black and white, either make sure you see the parents or don't buy an '08.

Many Cal Kings hatch out black and white - but by the time they reach a year or two in age, the white may be vibrant yellow and the black may be a light brown.

It sounds like you are looking for my type of cal king so kudos for looking for a killer snake!!
I am sure though later on in the year, you will find plenty to choose from at later shows. A lot of breeders may be just having snakes hatch out now. My favorite local show in TX is in Houston in Sept, put on my the ETHS. That show would be a great place to look for a cal king in.
Take care!!
