Peruvian litter of 1???

cbmorphs Jul 13, 2008 08:55 AM

Here's a baby from my X patterned female Peruvian boa born this morning 7-13-08.. I'm hoping she's not bound up with babies or that she'll be having the rest soon!!! I'm a little nervous as this is her first litter ever and she's at least 10 years old.. Can anybody give me some suggestions as to what I could expect.. This is my first time for anything like this..

Thanks in advance!!

Also this baby is very big, I'd say it's large anough to eat a hopper mouse or rat pup!! I would'nt feed it that yet, just a reference to it's large size!!

Thanks again,
Chaz

What an exciting moment for you and even moreso with some Peruvians coming into this world!

Take a deep breath and just let her do her thing.

That baby looks great and there should be more to come.

Do not disturb her and get you a rubbermaid ready with a damp towel for the babies to go into.

Be sure not to feed any of them until after their first shed!

Keep us posted. Just wonderful for you.

I've been ready for over 2 weeks now and very patiently waiting for this moment!! I've heard of boas giving partial births then giving birth to the rest of them a day or so later.. I'm really hoping this is what's going on with her!
I've had litters of boas before and just recently had several litters.. I've never had this happen before though,, especially with one of my favorite boas!!!

Thanks for your help, it's very appreciated!!

Here's a few from this years litters

1st pic Hypo Hogg litter
2nd pic Hypo possible Jungle litter
3rd pic Jungles 100% het anery, 50% possible het Snow Jungles

Let her be mother nature knows best. Baby Peruvians are usually pretty large, and that big guy looks great!! congrats Best wishes to you and that mother.

Thanks!

Did mean, you hope it is'nt bound up? I hoping it is'nt bound up with babies, that could mean trouble!!

Thanks though,
Chaz

I know you produced some litters this year, but accomplishing a Peru breeding and only one baby (so far) it is like your first litter all over again. Is she still restless or stretching out? I would be reluctant to disturb her now. Just keep pacing and keep in mind you have one fat happy guy, You gotta love the boas. Please keep us posted.

Yes she is still restless, I'm really hoping for more babies!! If I only get the one baby that will be fine as long as the Mom is ok and has no problems!! I'm cleaning cages today, so I'll be keeping a close eye on her all day!
I agree with the feeling like it's my first litter!! It seems as though true redtails are harder to breed.. I have a reverse striped Guyana I thought was gravid along with a Berry Miller line Brazilian Amarali!! Neither turned out to be gravid! Both are very beautiful animals that I've had for several years now!! There's always next year!

Thanks for the advice!!

That's a nice looking, big baby there!

Does the mother still look full? I'm willing to bet there are more babies in there...

Sometimes the mother will push out a baby with the waxy stool, and the rest will come hours or a couple days later...this very thing happened to several people with gravid girls on another forum I post on...

I really want to see what else is in there, and if any of them get that pattern like mom...

Good luck!

Thanks,

Chaz

Congratulations on that beauty. I had a Peruvian litter last year and that is pretty cool to see more people got peruvian litters because they are no many peruvian litters in captivity. I think the best thing is to wait and see what more will come out. Do not disturb her to much.

Good luck with your peruvian mom and the babies.

You can post me an email if you have any questions that will pop up in your head :D You will find my emailadress at my homepage.
