uncalcified egg question!

kennny Jul 13, 2008 01:54 PM

Hi All,

A couple of eggs from my cluth this year has areas of uncalcified/transparent areas on them. 1 was a large area on top and the other a small patch near the bottom of the egg. I been candling them and both have developed viens. Its been 2 weeks and the areas have turned red but not spread at all. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced any problems with uncalcified eggs? any advice would be much appreciated.

regards,

Kenny.

This ("window" is very common and in my experience has no bearing on the outcome of an egg successfully hatching. I'm not sure exactly why it happens but don't worry too much. Sometimes if the window is big enough, you can get a sneak peek at what's in the egg. I know one season, I had an albino before the egg even pipped.

These are sometimes called windows. They should end up OK. As they develop you should be able to actually see inside the egg. I've had them several different times and never had any issues.
