Crocodilian permits in Florida

thereticmane Jul 13, 2008 02:25 PM

Does anybody know what you have to do to get permits for crocodilians in Florida. I know you have to have them but I don't know any of the requirements for the permit.

Go to MyFWC.com. The license and permit section will answer all of your questions.

A Class III permit is required for gators, Class II required for others. Specific amount of land is required for Class II. You then have to request an Alligator addendum to the Class III exhibition/sale permit, a wildlife officer comes out to inspect, and you have to demonstrate that it is used for educational purposes. You are not permitted to own an alligator for recreational/pet purposes. Other crocodilians may be different, but I don't own any others.

This is the procedure that I went through and the legal procedure as directed to me by the FWC. There is a bit of paperwork involved and they expect all the enclosure requirements, etc, to be up to par.

The website is not always clear, but if you go to myfwc.com and click on wildlife permits, you will find info on exhibiting wildlife, reptiles.
