lol, crazy clutch!!

kylescott Jul 13, 2008 10:18 PM

So I just got in the same clutch... 5 spiders, 1 mojave, 1 pastel and 2 normals. I bred her to all dom/co-dom males... I really didn't expect this. The thing is... the mojave is 50% het for ghost. My question is... is there a chance of the rest being het for ghost?

I am hoping for clutches like that. No, the rest can't get the hypo gene as they were not fathered by the mojave.

I didn't think so... but now I have no clue what to think about the normals, lol. Probably not likely that they would have the ghost gene.. chance are very slim.

The normals could have been fathered by the Mojave so then if he hits his odds and is a het ghost then any normals he fathered would also have a shot at het ghost just like the Mojave he fathered. However, the normals could also have been fathered by the spider or the pastel (assuming a super pastel wasn't used). It's the spiders and pastels that couldn't have gotten the Mojave's possible ghost mutation. Someday maybe we'll have a commercial paternity test and you could see who the father of the normals was.

hmmmm ball python paternity test, sounds like a great patent, shall we start working on that, or lets go a step further and identify the sequences of the genes to all know ball python morphs so we can test possible hets and tell people exactly what they are het for, and heck while we are at it lets just sequence the entire ball python genome, because to my knowledge that hasn't been done yet, then we can patent all the genes and create new morphs at will via genetic engineering, and charge exorbitant prices for the new morphs we create and collect royalties on any subsiquent profits, sound like a plan? call me
I can start sequencing in my "spare" time at work, can you fund my reagents? If not we can just apply for some B.S. fed. grant for something else and then use the money for our BP project
Think of the vacations and sports cars....ahhh pipe dreams!!!

I would say the 2 normals have a very slim chance of being het ghost.Terry

yeah..... considering I have more spiders in the clutch, I think the father of the normals is more then likely the spider male. But then again, there is no for sure way of knowing. Eitherway, I am happy to get a odd ball clutch. Considering I lost 6 spiders last week due to them not eating all there yolk and coming out of there eggs way to early... this clutch is not to bad. But, 2 of the spiders look really thin... so who knows if those two will survive.

I plan on doing that in two years with my pastel females.
I want to breed both of them to my pastel male, a cinny and a spider, so, I can produce pastels, super pastels, spiders, bumblebees, cinnies, pewters and normals (although normal would be horrible odds with that many morph possibilities...)
