well i got it finished this weekend, and pretty happy with the results. It is made out of a about 4 IKEA wardrobes, which i took apart when renovating. Its ll levels, fits boxes of 14cm high, 28cm wide, and 40cm long. 3 wide. And at the moment has 18 young snakes in there. As oyu can see from the pics, i have used a few different heating solutions, both heatmats and heat cable. Basically cos that was all i could get from any pet store at the time, will see what works better and then adjust. I have a bunch of snakes arriving from the states on thursday so had to be ready. there is approx a 2mm gap on top of each cage, enough to let air circulate, but not enough for them to escape, i hope So far, humidity is sitting on close to 90%.

costs where,
melamine free
tubs, 1,90euro each x 33
waterbowls, 0,20euro cents each x 33
already had the thermostats
40 euro for the heat cable
50 euro for the heat mats
case of beer for a mate, whose drop saw i borrowed

cheers

Looks nice!!! So no more escape stories OK Glad so far you've not actually lost any. I just kept thinking not again, one of these times something will get out and never be seen again.

Nice system, where do you get those boals? they look pretty nice, with that opening for them to get under them etc. .

do you have any problems with them tipping them over?

all the plastic tubs, and water bowls came from IKEA, you got to remember im in europe, but surely IKEA has invaded the states aswell. They dont tip them over yet, as they fit under them quite nicely, but i would think in a few months the bigger ones will be pushing it.

just wondering, does anyone here who has racks, NOT use hides in the tub? especially for the bigger snakes?

cheers

Dave,
...IKEA does have a presence in the US. The nearest IKEA to me that I know about is 265 miles away in Atlanta though. Some of my Rainbow Boas in racks have PVC tubes to hide in and some have no hides but do crawl under the paper substrate. The bigger snakes in the plastic tubs are generally more comfortable out in the open without a hide than the little ones are. The opaque plastic of the tubs does provide some privacy for the snakes.

i plan on going to newspaper sooner or later, just for easy of cleaning and feeding. I used to always feed my snakes in separate containers, but this isnt really feasible with this many snakes. I do have a concern about them injesting substrate, but have a spot in the tubs, with no substrate, so do at least try and feed them there, although they normally drag it somewhere else

One good thing, with the rack, is that i have had 16 out 18 feed this week, and thats got to be a record, still 11/11 for the aneries and rest, just the pearls that dont like it, but they getting better Time will tell i guess

cheers

my hides are seperate from my water bowl.

I know dave has his water bowls on top of his hides.
