Quick calcium fix for tonight! Or Help!

barker109 Sep 02, 2003 10:43 PM

Ok, here's what is going on. I bought a beardie two weeks ago. Its very small, it should be nine weeks but looks more like its 3/4 weeks. She only eats small amounts. I've been working with her for two weeks and today I gave her 4 wax worms which she ate greedily. Tonight she has tremors. MBD I suspect, though I do use rep-cal calcium and vit. at every feeding and she does have reptisun uvb and her basking spot is between 108 & 110. What I have done is given her some nutrical ( very similar to jumpstart) mixed with the repcal calcium. I used a small eye dropper. She ate it ok. Other than a vet visit tomorrow is there anything else I can do for her tonight?
To top it off, I have a yorkie in labor and its not going to well so I'm worried about her too. Geez, what a night!
Thanks for any help you can give.
Take care,
Karen

There's not much else you can do as far as I know. Especially since the sun isn't out, which would be a suggestion. But, if you are giving calcium, that's about it. I sometimes scrape cuttlebone on greens for x-tra calcium.
IMO, jumpstart isn't that great, read the ingredients, lotsa fat.
Maybe someone else will come up with something..
Hope the vet gets him back on track..(take a poop sample if you can)

is this the first time you have seen her have tremors.. could the waxies you gave this afternoon been to big for her to eat causing impaction??? if it is MBD like christy said there isn't much you'll be able to do at night..best bet is to get her to the vet tomorrow..good luck with the beardie and the puppies.. my dad breeds dogs and our last dog to give birth had trouble too...but all ended well... 5 healthy pups and a relieved mom.. i'm sure yours will go smoothly too
