Crap! White fuzz growing on eggs

skronkykong Jul 14, 2008 12:27 PM

I have never had this problem before. There two eggs seperate from each other that have fine white hair like stuff growing on them. It looks like one of the eggs may have gone bad but the other looks descent, except for denting. Should I leave them be?

my Eastern Coachwhips eggs get thick on top and hatch fine, as long as they get air through the coconut husk or perlite...I also see large clutches of ratsnake eggs in the wild covered in all diffeerent colors of mold and all seem to have hatched.

Ok, well I'll ignore it then. Usually I use vermeculite for eggs, but I didn't have enough so I used sphagnum moss to fill it in. The moss seems dry but the eggs aren't denting so I don't want to change anything. Thanks for the reply.

but first, don't worry. Get a cheap toothbrush (not used)with SOFT bristles. Dab the toothbrush in water and brush the eggs gently. Repeat as necessary and do not rotate/be vigorous with the eggs in any way. Might i also suggest a little more airation to the incubation box (i.e.: opening box for a few second daily) as well.

I'm sure your done cleaning the mold off your eggs but I just wanted to state that brushing off your eggs is fine if their over a month old and your brush is dry, but never use water on the eggs'skin, snake egg shells are like a sponge, one tiny drop will be absorbed by one third of the shell on just seconds and can not be just dried off causeing mold and will also block air to the embryo. The shell is designed to absorb moisture but not liquid. But their also pretty durable, I once had an indigo egg thats shell had been penitrated by mold but the inner membrane protected the snake inside. JB
