OOPS i made a typo.........more ?? Too lol

RedQuake Sep 02, 2003 10:57 PM

in my post below about questions concerning breeding i stated "i'm guessing not since its happening in captivity)" i meant to say that i would imagine the geckos would breed regardless of a kinked tail..........sorry for the confusion.

It also just occurred to me that perhaps geckos might start eating more when ready to breed??? (yes i meant that as a question LOL). Is that true at all? My guy eats ALOT right now and i know he's not ready to breed yet, so is it personalized to each gecko? Will some have a larger appetite when mating season comes around? I would think the females would once they are gravid but do they before hand?

Sorry for the questions again.......i like the Leopard Gecko Manual and other books out there but it would be great if there was a specific breeders book that got into great detail

Thanks again

yea I am sure leos would breed with a kinked tail. Heck they will breed as long as something is not wrong with their male and female parts. I have not really ever noticed my males eating more during breeding or less, but I do know that 3/4 of my females once gravid almost stop eating completely and the others slow down. This is why you want your females at top weight and physical condition before you introduce them to the male. Egg laying is hard on them especially when they won't eat.

Thats just weird! I would have thought that they would eat more when gravid......it doesnn't really make sence to me cause they are now providing nurishment to more than themselves.

Oh well They know what they are doing hehehe

Thanks for the post

My females gradually eat less and less while they're gravid, until they refuse food altogether the day before they lay their eggs.

Thats gotta be scary watching them slowly lose weight... Before you breed your females do you wait until they have those fat bubbles under their front legs before breeding? How long after they lay do they start eating alot again?

Thanks for posting

They start eating like pigs less than 12 hours after they lay. It's amazing!

And both of my females were already gravid when I acquired them, so it wasn't really my choice to breed them (although I'm happy with whatever comes along!). :P

Well at least they eat again.....i'd be worried that they wouldn't...

Do you have any idea what the morph of the male is that mated with your females? If not, it'll be a great surprise to see how they turn out
