Hi Vic,

Not a problem to do so. The recipient must have a permit to accept your animals. This is a one time permit good for a year and will outline shipper, recipient, species and quantity. Recipient will get that done for you and send you a copy to include with package.

I have done this 2 or 3 times and always used Delta Dash since it will get there in about 14 hours. It may take 2 days via overnight and likely cost even more. To HI, Dash was only about $25 more than normal. You address the package to the Qurantine Branch listed on the permit c/o the recipient.

Easy to do and should not be a problem. One bit of advice- do not use weeds, hay or mulch to pack it- the inspectors don't like it. Also, the vet cert must state- "no external parasites and in apprarent good health" - simple to determine.

See you in Daytona in about a month!

If you live on Oahu Delta is the way to go, but for the other islands it's more difficult.
Delta needs to land on Oahu since the Ag inspectors are there. From Oahu the package needs to be transferred to another airline that goes to the other islands. Delta doesn't do transfers interisland. The additional transfer to the other islands costs around $30-40. You may have to find a gopher to take it from Delta to the other airlines that's another fee.
If anyone has experience with Delta and having the packages tranferred for tranport to another island please shed some light. I would love it if the torts wouldn't have to endure such a long wait.

I live in Hawaii. So far I've been lucky with my shippments arriving alive and healthy. Luckily the breeders / hobbyiest I bought from are, hmmm hmm, anal too. I've tried both FedEx and UPS next day and they both take at least 2 days.
I don't know what happened. Up until a 1.5 year ago FedEx arrived next day to Hawaii. I mean the package gets here in less than 24 hrs, but for some reason it just sits in their sorting facility.
I'm just fortunate that there are people who are willing to take the extra precautions and pack really well so that the torts will arrive o.k.
FYI... for those of us who live in Hawaii we need to have an import permit and the person sending the torts need to have a vet certificate for the torts. Just like the ones needed for out of state sale of leos and sulcata from CA and AZ The person buying the torts pays for the vet certificate.

Thanks much,Glad you shippers are a..a.doing a good job of packing.I worked at UPS way back when I was young,I was the re-wrap man.I saw what the boxes go through and how to repack them right.Once I was looking out a window of a plane I was on waiting to take off.I watched them unload another plane. As the little trailer truck took off some packages fell and another truck ran over them! They never new,I just pictured one of my shipments and ordered a drink.Vic

I have shipped to Hawaii twice with no problems what so ever. Permit in box of course. I went UPS overnight, one box did take an extra day because it had to be inspected then picked back up and delivered to another island. The last on to Honolulu got there and cleared the next day! No problems. I have found the people that do the inspections to be really great and easy to work with. A little off the subject when I was departing Venezuela in 1987 I saw a casket that was being loaded onto a plane get dropped onto the tarmac and it was not a pretty sight. I had a drink that day also, and I was only 17 LMAO! I may have had two. Douglas
