neat "hyper-erythristic" honduran

rtdunham Sep 02, 2003 11:02 PM

This is a tricolor, but look at the red in her! Lots of scales in the mid-triad ring have red areas, and there's some red spilling into some of the white rings as well. It's on its way to a new home on the West Coast, as I write this, but I just figured people might be interested in seeing it. This may be a phenomenon seen periodically in Hondurans but i've never noticed it before, certainly not to this extent.

No, I'm not suggesting this should be a new "morph" of Hondurans, a) I don't think it's that dramatic and b) I doubt it will reproduce as a simple recessive.

I just used the "hyper-erythristic" term to be descriptive. There are already enough manufactured names of different snakes to make one's head spin!

I have a normal tricolor honduran that shows the same trait as a non-albino form. Lots of red flecking in the white/yellow area. Maybe I can get a good pic of her.

This is my CB01 male. He has quite a bit of red that shows up in his middle bands, as well as a little in the white areas. Is this the same thing that you are talking about?

Hi Paul,

I THINK this is something different. I"m betting the red scattered in your snake's bands is a relict from when the snake was younger and the whole band was more colorful...with age white tipping has eroded the color, leaving some of the scattered red? But without having watched your snake since it was a hatchling, I'm simply guessing. I do know i've owned a number of albinos that started out with richly-colored middle rings that "disappeared" or partly disappeared over time, leaving an appearance much like yours.
