Blood cage height?

exitree Jul 14, 2008 07:18 PM

Okay, I've searched and searched the forums and couldn't find the answer to my questions so here it goes. I'm getting 2 more bloods (yearling females) which I need enclosures for. I know a lot of people here like to use rubbermaid or sterilite tubs for their animals so I figured I'd give it a try, however, the LARGEST that I can find are 43"x20"x6.5". Now, my question is, is 6.5" going to be too low for them? and for that matter what is the minimum height needed for an ADULT blood? Hopefully someone can answer this, because if not, I don't know of any other tubs that would work.
Thanks,
Kristin

Depends on the size of the snake. You're not going to want to pack a super-big girl into a 6.5" tall tub, simply because she'd be likely to pop the top off if she doubles back on herself & pushes hard. By the same token, that size is probably fine for small to mid-size adults. I kept some in the 2-wide Freedom Breeders for years & that worked fine - tubs are only 8.5" deep.

Several people on these boards use 12" tall cages & seem to like them just fine, even for the bigger snakes.

Bloodpythons.com - Whats YOUR Blood Type?

Thanks for the tips Kara. Ok I think i'll be okay. The animals are only yearlings so they won't need anything that big yet, but in the meantime, has anyone ever used one of the larger Sterilite/Rubbermaid/Iris Drawer units to house yearling-sub adult bloods? I was just thinking because it looks like it might make things more convenient if I can get the humidity and temps to work out. Any input or ideas?
