It is illegal. They cannot be bought, sold, exported,or other wise. They are listed as a protected species, Species of Special Concern, by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Game. Permits are required for research, study and educational purposes. Lester G. Milroy III
