ESCAPE... HELP!!

missafinn1 Jul 15, 2008 09:22 PM

The smallest of my waters got out.... he's only about 21/2 feet right now and he has a good sized area to roam. I have been ripping stuff apart trying to find him but there are just to many boxes and stuff. Any ideas... maybe set some type of trap. Any help would be huge. Thanks.

Depending upon how large an area your talking....

My water would always get out of his enclosure from the time he was 2ft to 5ft, in a room that was 360 sq ft. Provided your lizard is very active you will have no problem finding it. Instead of looking for him, listen for him.

Go into the room after being out of it for about 30 minutes, to an hour, and then slowly sneak into the room, like I said if your lizard is active I gaurentee you will hear him/her scratching around or climbing around. Mine would never stay still for more then 10 minutes, there was always so much to explore!

Goodluck with finding him/her.

Mike.

What is the temp of the room? Is it under a/c or in a basement? If its cool, he will most likely be crashed out in a tight spot. Look inside couch cushions, under and inside radiators, etc. He will be somewhere very tight most likely. Try to seal off the room where you think he is.

Well I have sealed off every room on the floor where I know he is. I haven't been using any ac trying to get him to be more active and its hot as hell... The part that sucks is the day that he got out was the one day that I have ever accidentally left the door cracked open. I keep all of my animals on the 3rd floor of my house and 3 of the rooms are FILLED with boxes from the move 5 years ago. I started ripping them apart last night but didnt find anything. One of my friends suggested leaving a large tub of water in the middle of the room to see if he'll try to soak. I also took some corn starch and put it in the hallways to see if hes been passing by. Thanks again for everyones help. I'll keep you posted on the status of the tricky little bastard. And I do plan to try all of your ideas as well.

Use a glue board for rodents, Walmart has them. Place them along the walls.

Once you got the little bastige, you can get it off the glue board off with liquid soap or hand lotion. But work well, be patient and allow the soap or lotion to soak under. I have taken geckos and small snakes off these boards without problem. Of course, many monitors too and some were very very funny.

One was a 30 inch whitethroat. He tried to take a gecko off the glue board and got his nose stuck. Then he just gave up, hahahahahahahahahahaha

Anyway, once you learn how to get the animals off safely, these boards work wonderfully. Cheers

You know some asshole is gunna read that and really try it right?

Isn't that the point? Many people use glue traps, all it takes is some common sense when peeling the critter off.

Take bubble wrap or some sort of "loud" plastic material (grocery bags perhaps) and line them around the edges of your rooms. Just wait until you start hearing the noise.

This sounds nuts but it works. When I use to have monitors get loose I would change the bedding in my rodent cages and leave about 8" of it in a large rubbermaid trash can. I would leave some shipping boxes around the trash can. When the monitors got hungrey they would climb up and not be able to climb out. This worked every time. Thanks Ian
