Brooksi feeding help

wbcrows Jul 15, 2008 10:50 PM

OK first snake, she was very calm for me when handled at the show. Came home she circled the tank for a long time then finally went in the cave. In two days only poked her head out a few times. I tried to get her our to feed and she went for me. OK I waited a bit, she calmed down I placed her in another container to feed. She ate a fuzzy but immediately after she lunged at me throw the container twice. Is this usual? I got her back in the tank ok but didn't expect her to lung at me after eating the fuzzy.

Give her time to adjust to her new cage and as for going at you after feeding, she most likely was in a feeding mode and took your hand to be food.

The snake is only getting situated in it's new quarters, and doesn't want to be bothered. To the snake, you are a huge monster that swoops down on it with the "hand of death"..LOL!

It will get much better with a little time, don't worry. Just keep it fed well and in the low 80's, and it will thrive. If you plan on handling the little hatchling, don't do this after it has fed for two days, then when you do go down to get it, go ahead and do it without hesitating, and waving your hand around so it doesn't have time to get defensive and "zero in" on your monster "hand of death"..haha!

When the little tike gets a little more size on, and begins getting used to your scent,.....it will begin to not associate you any longer as a threat.

She may have been hungry and wanted more.

The Brooks has an intense feeding response, and Doug was spot on when he said if you are to pick it up, be quick. If you wave your hand around in there, you'll likely be sampled as food!
