mine eats a LOT, but stops after a point
so I feel comforatble letting her have a slighly overfull feed dish (nearly full grown eats 2 HUGE nightcrawlers, or 3 baby nightcrawlers, or 5-6 red wrigglers 1-2 times a day)
She is also starting to dig in the dish if she does not see them on top of the dirt.
I have to go away this weekend, and I M going to set up a sprinkler, and leave her with a dish full of crickets (legs off)
and maybe another dish of meal worms, then give her steak (I mean earthworms) when I get back

I agree, I have never seen one eat too much. It may appear that they may be over eating but I have never seen a fat MHD, not counting one that is gravid. They may look quite fat right after eating but there are not long lasting signs of obesity and no fatty arm-pits, etc. I too feel very comfortable free feeding them.

LOL...I would probably consider Link to be one of the fattest MHD's that aren't gravid...however he has laid of the nightcrawlers a bit lately. He used to eat about 3 a day and now he is done to one a day or 2 every other day, a much better diet for the fat guy. He has slimmed up a bit also, but is still a pretty bulky lizard. I wish all my dragons were built like him, some just look like they are starving eventhough they eat 2 nightcrawlers a day and still pick at the mealworms I have in a dish at the bottom. I agree, most will just stop eating when they are full and some will stop eating for days just because they feel like it (darn those hunger strikes!) I wouldn't worry too much about giving him food as long as he takes it, he should be just fine.

ok. he usualy only eats about half a nightcrawler and leaves the rest for later, but sometimes he nearly eats the whole thing. sometimes it seems like he's having a hard time, and I didn't want to end up having him choke himself.

Crickets, Superworms, silkworms (I have not tried these for Erowen yet, but I hear they are like lobster) red wrigglers (also called trout worms, or float worms)
