Bring wild Milks back from Central....

RG Jul 16, 2008 09:58 AM

America.

Has anyone done this?

Can anyone help with information or forms/procedures needed to be completed to have this happen?

I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica...and if I find something really special...I may want bring something or ship something back.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rusty

Unfortunately, as I understand it, Costa Rica has had strict laws against exporting any sort of native wildlife since the 80's. That's the reason that the gene pool of captive-bred black milksnakes is so shallow... just about everything currently in the U.S. is descended from a few specimens imported decandes ago (see Shannon Brown's very informative post below, dated July 8). From a conservation standpoint, it makes sense. On the other hand, if I took a trip up to the cloud forests and found a gaigeae hatchling, it would be INCREDIBLY tempting to find a way to sneak it into my luggage.

This is as tempting as trying the dolphin with my girlfriend. As awsome as it sounds the penalties in both would be very severe.

ehem, has beastiality now expanded into marine mammals? (scratches head...) I suppose consumption of raw mackerel is a pre-requisite to the practice? I didn't know.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!
