Popping baby balls

I have a question that I'm sure someone in here has the answer to. When popping ball pythons I sometimes see the hemipene come out. Obviously male. Other times I don't see anything at all.....female. Sometimes though, I just see 2 bumps where the hemis would come out. Sometimes the nubs are white and sometimes red. No matter what I do I can't get a hemipene to come out of either side. The ones I can get to pop male are always easy to pop, both sides. I can't ever get these others to do anything more than show the small nubs. Are these females?

I would say yes, those are the females..but,i had one do that last year, and i had someone with more experience pop it.Turned out to be a male(,with short hemi-penes).
So experience is key, especially if they ARE female(as the "red" would be some form of hemorriging at that point, from the popping possibly.)

probably females, but with some males, the difference can be very subtle, so without a pic, no one could be definitive about it.

The small bumps you see are "scent glands" and are female! However, if they turn red, I would let the snake rest a minute or two and recheck! As someone stated, some males have smaller hemipenes!
