Water Bowl Idea

bonomoc08 Jul 16, 2008 08:40 PM

My sister Has a male pit bull who likes to pick up his water bowl and carry it around. She tried an experiment: lining the whole bowl with concrete and leveling it out so it's smooth, and now he can't carry it around. Has anyone tried that out with water bowls for their box turtles, so they can't tip them over? I don't have to worry about it, because I have the pond, but I'm just wondering.

Thanks, Cliff

My waterbowl is a large oil changing pan (the kind you get from walmart that you put under your car to drain oil into...never used for that of course). I dug a hole and set it down in that so it is flush with the ground. They can't tip it over. I placed some rocks so they can climb back out of it...works like a charm.

A friend of mine did that with a large paint tray from Home Depot for his spotted turtles, and it works great. It has a pump, and an artificial waterfall, and they're thriving in it.

Cliff, my several of my turtles like to crawl under their water pans. The way I stopped it was to dig a slight depression for the pan to sit in and surround the pan with thin pieces of flat shale. It looks pretty and they can't tip over the bowls. Tess
