Treating RI in a gravid Cornsnake??

tomsey Jul 16, 2008 09:11 PM

My cornsnake is gravid with her second clutch of the season.
She appears to have a mild respiratory infection. I think I read that Baytril should not be used on cornsnakes that are gravid.
Do you know if this is true?
What is the best way to treat a gravid cornsnake with an RI??

Thanks for your help!!

I would personally wait until she lays to treat her with any kind of antibiotic, but if it really is still mild, bumping up the heat may help her resolve it herself.

I would not treat her with antibiotics until after she drops her clutch and then only if raising the temps doesn't take care of it.
What has worked for me is to raise the temps 2-3 degrees, remove her substrate and replace it with paper and carefresh. Also, I remove their water bowl. I then offer water every 2-3 days and remove the bowl after 30 minutes. A warmer, drier, environment will usually take care of a mild R.I. if you catch it early enough.
Best of luck.

get a rubbermaid sweater box put in in the tank cut a lil hole big enough for your snake to go in and out. fill it with moss wet it down that will up the humidity and the up the heat some that should take care of the respitory infection.
