A Deadly poisonous Venomous Reticulated Python (according to news)was found in a washing machine in Orlando.
I wonder what the Retic was crossed with to make it Venomous.

HAHA, Oh yes im sure the media is doing a great job with that one just like all the other bogus florida stories.
What is it a reticulated cobra? or a retic gaboon cross?

Life moves pretty fast, if you dont stop and look around once and a while,... you could miss it.

DMong Jul 17, 2008 09:56 AM

I wish I would have seen that. The TV media are the very best when it comes to false information, and sensationalizing what the general public hears in regards to snakes. Then when you figure that probably 97% of the general public don't have the first clue as to what a retic is,.......then they see it as fact!..haha........after all, they saw it on the news didn't they?..hahaha!

I guess it was crossed with a Bushmaster(Lachesis muta) to produce the viable eggs this venomous one originated from!..hahaha!

One thing though,...the name for this cross wouldn't gently roll off the tongue like "Sinacorn" does!..LOL!

I hear ya!..LOL!

I just saw the absolutely RIDICULOUS story for myself about a deadly venomous 8 ft.(more like 6 ft.) Reticulated Python that was found by a woman in her washing machine???..hahaha!

The news anchor stated that wildlife officials were able to remove the deadly venomous retic without incident!..LOL!

In my opinion, whoever was responsible for allowing that story to "air" like that should be kicked right squarely in their A$$,...then FIRED!!!

It had video footage and all!, and was delivered on the air EXACTLY as I mentioned,....complete with some dude "casually" pulling the deadly venomous retic out of the washer!..hahaha!

This world we live in can be a very funny place at times!

I heard about that this morning myself, but I remember the newscaster specifically say it was non-venemous...

I guess that goes to show that some news organizations actually care about getting their facts straight, but most seem to not care at all...

eyewitness news 9, not to quote i recall them saying the venomous reticulated python with a deadly bite
Thats enuff to scare the shorts off the common man..
who was the wildlife officer????????????that caught it (by the neck)and may have given the misinformation?

bizkit421 Jul 17, 2008 02:41 PM

I'm not sayin you didn't hear that, but you've got to remember that story aired all over the country and some newscasters obviously got the story wrong... I was just sayin thats not what I heard when I listened to it...

Maybe Channel 4 outta Pittsburgh realized they story they got was wrong, because they showed the video without any sound and their crew talked over it...

I don't know who the officer was, but the female news anchor on channel 9 were I live CLEARLY stated that it was a "deadly venomous" Reticulated Python!..LOL!

This is all being said as the dude is "casually" pulling it out of the washing machine just like we would pull any of our snakes out of a RubberMaid!..hahah!

It was one of the most asinine things I've ever seen,....but I certainly wasn't surprised........this is what they do BEST!

It would have made a great comedy skit!..hhahaha! A guy from another forum sent me this funny "photo-shopped" pic just for this occasion!

By your command - three press versions of the story ... neither the item nor the two video links mention 'venomous'. However, that's not to say that other stations did not add their own 'colour comment'. Might I be so bold as to suggest that the groups check the websites of their local TV stations to bee if some of them posted the story like the originating Maine station did?
The better TV story is the one dated the 16th.

ASSOCIATED PRESS 17 July 08 Maine woman shocked to find 8-foot snake in washer
Photo: Nuisance wildlife specialist Richard Burton, left, holds an 8-foot long non-venomous reticulated python as wildlife rehabilitator Jen Lewis calls a friend to positively identify the type of snake, at The Kennel Shop in Lewiston, Me., Wednesday, July 16, 2008. The snake was found in a Gorham, Maine women's washing machine. (AP Photo/Sun Journal, Daryn Slover)
Gorham, Maine (AP): A woman got the shock of her life when she found an 8-foot snake mixed in with clothes in her washing machine. The snake, identified as a reticulated python, somehow got into the water pipes of Mara Ranger's 1800s-era farmhouse and slithered into the machine.
After Ranger took her blue jeans out of the machine Wednesday, she reached back into the load and felt something move.
"I jumped back and all of sudden its head starts coming out of the washing machine and it looked huge," Ranger told WMTW-TV.
Ranger quickly closed the lid and called police and an animal control officer, but they didn't want anything to do with the serpent.
When Richard Burton, who operates Maine Animal Damage Control in Lewiston, arrived at Ranger's house, he could barely believe his eyes.
Burton reached into the machine wearing a pair of welding gloves, expecting to come out with a 4-foot snake. But when he pulled the animal out, it kept coming and coming — all 8 feet of it.
Once out of the machine, the angry snake wrapped itself around Burton's hand, cutting off the blood flow. Burton then wrestled the scaly reptile into a plastic bag, tied it shut and brought it to Lewiston.
That's where Jen Lewis, a wildlife rehabilitator who works at the Kennel Shop, identified it as a python. The snakes kill prey with their teeth but are not poisonous, she said.
Lewis and Lewiston's animal control officer planned to find the snake a home at a wildlife refuge.
But how the snake ended up in the washing machine remains a mystery. Burton guessed it was somebody's pet and that the owner ended up tossing it out into the wild when it got too big. It then made its way through the water pipes and into the washing machine, probably after the load was done, he said.
In the meantime, Ranger said she's a little paranoid.
"Now that it's gone, I'm going to be checking crevasses and corners," Ranger said. "I'm going to be looking in the tub first — before and after, maybe even during, the rinse cycle."
