hi everyone i just ordered 2 more collareds and got em today. i requested two females, but i think ones is a male. on top of that i dont even think hes an eastern collared lizard, which are the one i requested. can anyone sex and classify this guy/girl!!

really? darn i wanted two females, but what can you expect from a reptile retailer. they sell the animals, they dont do much else. hes got a black throat instead of yellow... hmm..hes a cute little boy tho. tiny, just when i cant think they get smaller and cuter, they do!! i cant wait for hatchlings!! these two are very little. one has eggs actually!!! yay more eggs!!

Some sellers say they are too busy to show you the actual animal that you will receive, but I would never buy without seeing photos. Even photos can be deceiving, but you have a better idea of what to expect. While some species are difficult to sex as hatchlings and juvies, adult Collareds should be easy for an experienced dealer. Have you complained to the seller? Do you have housing for another male?

no i didnt, and its kind of a second hand request after i order the lizards. like i requested two females. you find the reptile you want on the sight, and then pick the quantity.... ive order from them before, and they have fulfilled my wishes, however perhaps they made a mistake. i dont wanna say the site, but they have sent me good healthy lizards always. they dont show me what im buying though, and that has always bothered me. i suspected he was a male but to the untrained eye, he could be a female. im not gonna send him back,because i like him already,LOL!!! im keeping him with the little girl, in another tank. they are a little smaller then the rest, so i dont want anyone getting hurt. i have asked for pics, and yes i got the we are too busy response. fortunately the lizards are healthy.

and if you want to keep him that's great! From what I can see of his he is quite handsome. I guess he could be bicinctores -- is his tail shaped differently from your others??

Hey Guy,
Looks like a mojave/black/desert/great basin collared (C. bicinctores) to me. It is a little hard to tell from the angle of the pic, but it looks like he has a bit of an elongated snout and a black center of his dewlap. C. bicinctores should also have a bit of a latterally flattened tail, and black inguinal patches just in front of his hind legs on the sides of his belly. All of these traits are absent in typical C. collaris. Also, many herp dealers carry both "Nevada" (bicinctores) ans "Texas" (collaris) collareds this time of year.

uhh hes a little greener then what you saw in the picture, the only thing thats throughing me is the black throat. hes got the black splotches, but i had a female that had that as well, and i think she was eastern.his tale isnt lateraly flattened, its pretty round...hmmm. could he be a hybrid...in nature....i got a unique lizard, hes a keeper...lol!!!

But Nick, Bicintores don't have a yellow head like that. Here is my adult male bic. You can see the unpatterned stripe down the center of his tail

Guy, can you take a pic of him from above? That sure would help. Its really hard to tell from the side, but I think its one of those Texas/New Mexico easterns, maybe a chihuahuan. I will email Randy C. He has some of those and would probably recognize it.

This photo is a male C. collaris - probably from Kansas or Arkansas.

Based on the new pics, it is definitely not a desert collared. I think Eve was right from the beginning, Eastern from West Texas/ New Mexico. She sure knows her stuff!

They are both precious, and she does look ready to drop!
