Different Species getting along?

rappstar609 Jul 17, 2008 05:54 PM

Today I was utterly bored at work and was flipping through the photos section of this site, specifically monitors, and multiple pics caught my eye.... one- a sav and an Asian water monitor eating out of the same bowl (?) seeming to get along fine, with the pic caption explaining that they get along fine, and another pic of a tegu and a sav housed together, same story of the caption saying they get along....

Is this possible? i am sure it is probably not suggested... and...

How do people do this the first time? I mean do they just throw a mid-size water monitor in with a mid-sized sav in the same cage and cross their fingers? i would be crapping in my pants afraid that i was setting up a massacre if i did this and b) i would be crapping my pants so much i would never attempt this. but obviously it has been done and proven well.

thoughts?

The pictures you refer to were from monitors unable to function normally. The keepers kept them in subpar conditions, of course to a new keeper they would appear to be "getting along".
Its not a good suggestion to try keeping separate species together.
In order for 2 separate species to be kept together properly the keeper needs to be experienced and knowledgable in keeping both species separate sucessfully beforehand.
I could take a picture of my 6ft 8 inch albig in the same enclosure as my smallest ackie, but I choose not to risk it.
If you cannot keep both animals separate properly, you have no business getting both.
