Albinism in snakes

SDeFriez Jul 17, 2008 06:04 PM

Seeing how pernicious albinism is in mammals and how it affects behavior, health, vision and longevity. Am curious if anyone here knows the long term affects on albinistic snakes?

I know back in the 80's I had a few albino Cal kings who had vision problems, like photosensitivity and down right bad temperament. Also if there would be much difference between tyrosinase positive and tyroinase negative? Thanks!

My amel Cal King has some visual problems. It makes for a slightly better workout when feeding her, as she misses the dangled mouse most of the time.

So if the albino's are prone to vision problems, could that be why mine is so agressive to anything moving around her enclosure?

Most likely, albinisim is known to affect vision and temperament in animals. I had the same problems with mine.

Hahaha, I had that problem too with my albino Cals, they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn let alone their food.
