How to Encourage Them to Eat Greens?

Paradon Jul 18, 2008 12:09 PM

I just recently bought a Juvenile bearded dragon. He is eating fine at least when it comes to crickets, but he's not eating very much greens. He's eaten the greens hear and there, but not that much. Should I cut back on the crickets, so he'll eat more greens?

How big is he?

Juveniles usually don't eat a lot of greens. They need mostly protien to fuel their rapid growth. I'd offer them daily between meals anyway.

He is around 7 or 8 inch, I think. I haven't measure him, but he's way bigger than a hatchling, but he's not that old either. I got him for only $39.99 plus tax from the petstore around here. They were getting them from a local breeder. Anyway, I got a sweet deal and the last one left.

He's about 5 weeks old, maybe a little more, and is a really big dragon for his age.

It's pretty normal for young bearded dragons to have little or no interest in their greens. My juvenile male just recently began eating greens on a daily basis. I now have two young females that rarely eat greens. I just allowed my male access to them on a daily basis and he eventually came around...and i'm going to do the same with my females. If you are really concerned about it i have read that some people place insects in the bowls with their BD'S greens and this makes the greens more enticing to the lizard.

Thawed Peas are good cause they roll around when dropped in the veggy tray
