Newbie here...Best turtle to keep in an aquarium?

FenderStratguy Sep 03, 2003 07:53 AM

Hi, I am going to set up a 50-70 gallon aquarium and would like to buy a turtle (semi-aquatic) for it. I see red eared sliders all the time in pet shops however I know they grow way bigger, and eventually need a larger setup. What would be some good choices for small turtles that stay fairly small, are hardy and that I could keep in an aquarium for their whole life? Or should I just get fish?
Thanks,
Mark

You could easily keep two common or razorback musks in a 70, or one in a 50, as adults. They don't come out of the water much though. Spotted turtles also stay quite small. Not that there's anything wrong with fish, there are lots of fun things you can do with a tank that size.
