Breeding Problems

lepidus01 Jul 18, 2008 01:28 PM

I have two pair of western hognose that I have been trying to breed for two years now with no sucess. I hybernated the group this year between 50-55 deg and all of the animals were at proper weight before breeding. I have been using my larger male to breed with the two girls and they hook up but each year all that I have been getting is bad eggs.
Both females are back up to weight and I really want some babies this year do you think that it is a bumb male that is why I have not gotton any babies or something else?
Should I try to put the other male in with the females and try to double clutch the females or just wait till next year? Any advice would be helpful. I have poored over any information that I could find and am still coming up bust.

What temp do you run your hogs at after they come out of cooling? If you run them to warm you will sterilize your male

When they come out of winter time I warm them up to around 74-76.

If you don't mind me asking, what told you all the eggs were bad? I ask because my pair laid (double clutched) for the first time this year and both times they were some of the ugliest, different sized, brown motled, eggs I have ever seen. I incubated them anyways and they all hatched!
