About 1.5 months ago, I found a 10" scarlet kingsnake in my yard. It was in the process of eating a rather large skink, and I caught it and decided to keep it. Yet I have not seen it eat anything serious since I have had it. A week or two later, I put a skink in the cage with it, and left it in there for a week or two, but the snake showed no interest. I put anoles in there, with the same result. I even put in carpenter ant eggs-they only served as food for the skinks and anoles. (If the snake ate any of these, we did not see him doing so) I did try mixing some egg and water (I read that suggestion from someone on this forum), and we did observe the snake drinking some of this once. So he is getting some nutrition, although I fear that it is not enough. I have also read some discussion about force-feeding snakes-would that work with a lizard tail as well? If I can't get him to eat soon, I think I will let him go.
BTW, we keep a water dish in his cage, sand and dirt on the floor, and a mossy rock that he likes to hide under. Every day, we spray the rock with water. He seems to like going up on the rock after we wet it, and overall he acts strong and healthy. As I said, I am just concerned that he is not eating well. Any suggestions.
