Zonata question

regnadkcin Jul 19, 2008 08:34 AM

Is Rick Blair still raising Zonata? I went to his web site and used the contact me button and my email came back as undeliverable. I live in NC so I could raise them legally. I was just wondering since his web site shows so many incrediable animals, yet I never see posts or pics of any CBB on this site.

If you want to see nice zonatas, ask to look at the ones J Kruse, Allan Bartlett and some of the other guys have right here

I gave everyone a thanks including you in one of my topics in the Gray band forums but I don't think anybody understood what I meant lol. I don't expect a response, but just want people to read it.

Ric Blair has all but quite breeding snakes, due to
a health issue, and lifestyle change. Most of his collection
was picked up by Ryan Hoye. There are a few people that are
working with Zonata, and I forsee some awesome projects coming
to light in the next few years. Just keep your radar on, they are available from time to time. There are a very select few people that are working with them.
Good luck!

This is just the beginning Doug. I will eventually photograph everything and share in due time. You'll see what i mean over time. Most of my house is red, black, and white actually. Not sure if it's by coincidence or if it's a subconscious projection. Probably the latter, lol.

Those white head agalmas are unreal, maybe the most fantastic snakes I have seen. That Greenhorn multicincta has some bright colors too.Is that a yearling in the first photo ? Nice clean white on that one. I may have to take a trip out to the west coast some day.

VERY nice Jerry... not kidding around were you?!? Alrighty well thanks for the sampling of some truly wicked z's! Must admit it's a tease but I'm glad to see you amassing such a collection. One quick question though... do they all have to be screamers?!

Congrats on your new clutch...

Chris

snake_bit Jul 20, 2008 08:05 AM

He is a bit of a show off isn't he Chris. Kinda reminds me of another post a few weeks back where some guy here posted a whole lot of really knock-out scarlet kings.

Those are sweet!

Are baby Zonata hard to get started on pinky mice?

Tim

JKruse Jul 20, 2008 10:51 AM

Hey Tim!

They sure can be -- the equivalent of working with alterna, but with a twist. I have to keep on hand live fence lizards as I've found exceptionally-stubborn, obnoxious hatchlings respond best to baby live lizards and then a gradual transition using "live scenting", and then so on and so forth. I know it's a long-winded response, but it's all relevant.

Jerry you breed fence lizards ? I have kept skinks and worm snakes for the same reason.

JKruse Jul 21, 2008 12:40 PM

Well, I try Doug. They are simple with regard to captive care, however i will not really "trying" to bree them until this/next year. Wish me luck.

.. joke, of course!!..

I an certain that by the end of '08 we are all going to be envious of Jerry's Zonata collection!

Good job Jerry and I am looking forward to the pix!

snake_bit Jul 20, 2008 12:59 PM

Why wait till the end of '08 to be envious ?

Very true Doug, good catch!!

I should have said by the end of '08 we will be even more envious!

Great animals Jerry!

JKruse Jul 21, 2008 03:52 PM

thank you for the kind words man. Again, this is just a sampling. But I've been inspired by you with your plethora of alterna my good man. Right in my own back yard too. It doesn't get any better than that. It's nice to know that some can maintain focus on a species/subspecies because of their passion for them, whether it be for personal or professional rationale. You've certainly done that with alterna. This is my passion and I feel blessed that I have the innate patience to work with such frequently-obnoxious babies. Looking forward to your hatches this year as well.
