Ok she's only with me since last sunday, she won't come out of the cave during the day but once the lights are off she's all over the cage until she realizes i'm there. Will this change?

Also, I have a tortoise, box turtle and a uro and I must say the snake poo smells the worst. Wife will kill me once she realizes, does it always smell this bad?

Are the stools runny? Did the stolls smell less than before and now it started smelling worse?

Smelly poop is not a good sign. Take the snake to the vet and have a stool sample done.

Also take the light off the snakes cage and use bottom heat. Bottom heat is much better and will allow the snake to thermoregulate itself. The light just causes skin problems and may over heat the snake which is why it is waiting to come out after you shut the light off.

Undertank heating is what is best to use. Overhead lighting is not good and will dry out the snake . Florida kings are especially suseptple to drying out easliy.

thanks for the advice, I'm not using a heat lamp just a light on the tank to see. I have only had her since Sunday, if you put your nose over the tank you can smell it. What is smelly poop a sign of?

I am going to take a stab at this, but I think smelly/runny poop is a sign of a bacterial infection. My brooks doesn't smell much at all and I have to make a concerted effort to look for it.

Also, once my brooks became an adult, he spends very little time hidden. In fact, he hides mostly at night. This is one reason why I love that breed, they/he is so extroverted. I love my pueblan and scarlet, but I rarely see them out of their hides!

It can be a sign of parasites or it can also be a sign of stress. I don't know that stress results in smelly, but it certainly can results in runny poop.

It could just as easily be a lack of beneficial bacteria after a worming or some treatment. If this is right after some treatment, you might see everything return to normal in a few weeks. I’m a big believer in pro-biotics and beneficial flora being essential to good health.

Not too long ago I had one of my black kings at the vets for a worming. One shot and that took care of the worms. Stools are back to normal, though they (the poop) and all the rest of them still don't smell like a bed of roses, they are all worm free.

Best idea as mentioned in a previous post is to take your snake to the vet for a stool sample check..

LOL - my adult pit insists on pooping in her water dish. My juvenile pit doesn't do that - but he actually needs a bigger tub with a bigger water dish, that may be why he doesn't. He's moving up a tub size as soon as I add more shelves.

His poops aren't aren't smelly though.

If you would follow my history on this forum I rarely suggest to anyone to take a snake to a vet. Matter of fact i am usually telling folks not to because the problems they are seeing is normal or is a home remedy fix. But in this case I think they should.

I have a large collection of Florida kings. Smelly or runny poops is not normal for them. You should not compare Florida kings to other snakes like pits.
